Meet Our Pastor
Rev. Doctor Joreatha McCall Capers is a distinguished leader widely recognized for her profound commitment to social justice and community service. With an extensive background in theology and pastoral care, she has devoted her life to empowering individuals and families through her impactful work in the ministry.
Dr. Capers began her tenure as Pastor of St. Mark United Methodist Church in December of 2023. Her pastoral ministry began at Tyer Temple United Methodist Church in Tampa. She has also been the pastor at Stewart Memorial United Methodist at Bethune-Cookman University. Capers made history as the first female pastor of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, in Miami, FL, a role she held between 2005-2015. Dr. Capers also dedicated nearly a decade to serving as the administrator of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s Black College Fund.
A Tampa native, Capers graduated valedictorian of her class from Middleton Senior High School. Dr. Capers received her bachelor’s degree from Talladega College. She went on to obtain a Master’s and Doctorate degree in Mathematics Education from the University of South Florida. She earned her Master of Divinity degree from Grammon Seminary of the Interdominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA. As a mathematics instructor, her service spanned New York to Florida, as well as Georgia and included Copiague Junior High School, Hillsborough County Public Schools, Broward Community College, University of South Florida, and Spelman College. Dr. Capers is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
